Who we are
The Fireside Tribe is a podcast about Cameroonian music, diaspora
identity and digital culture. It is made by its hosts Atem, Anyang and
Eunice. This policy covers the website https://thefiresidetribe.com and the tools we use to
publish our own episodes and clips on social media.

The short version
- We collect very little. We do not sell or rent personal data to
anyone. - The website uses privacy-friendly analytics to see which pages and
episodes people use. - If you write to us through the contact form, we receive your name,
email and message by email. - Our social media planner only connects our own accounts. It never
collects data about other users.
What the website collects
Contact form. The contact page asks for your name,
your email address and your message. The form sends this to our inbox by
email so we can reply. We do not store form messages in the website
database, and we do not add you to any mailing list.
Analytics. We use PostHog (posthog.com, servers in
the United States) to understand how the site is used. It records pages
viewed, clicks, the page you came from, your approximate location
derived from your IP address, your browser and device type, and when an
episode starts or finishes playing. PostHog sets a cookie and uses local
browser storage to recognise a returning visitor. If your browser sends
a “Do Not Track” signal, PostHog does not record anything. You can also
block it with any common content blocker.
Server logs and security. Like every web server,
ours keeps short-term technical logs (IP address, time, page requested,
browser). We use them only to keep the site running and to block abuse,
for example repeated failed login attempts.
Comments. Comments are switched off on the site. We
do not collect comments.
Accounts and shop. Visitors cannot register
accounts, and the site does not take payments or orders.
Audio player and preferences. The podcast player and
the accessibility toolbar may save small settings in your browser (for
example volume or a contrast preference). These stay on your device.
Third-party content on the
site
Some pages show embedded content from other services:
- YouTube videos (Google)
- Spotify episode players
- Google Fonts
When a page with this content loads, your browser connects to those
services, and they may set their own cookies or receive your IP address.
Their own privacy policies apply: YouTube and Google: https://policies.google.com/privacy Spotify: https://www.spotify.com/legal/privacy-policy/
Our social
media planner (TikTok, YouTube, Facebook)
We run our own copy of the open-source planner Postiz on a server we
control. The Fireside team uses it to schedule and publish our own
podcast clips to our own social media accounts. It is not a public
service. Nobody outside the team can sign in to it or connect an account
to it.
TikTok
Our app “The Fireside Tribe” uses TikTok Login Kit and the TikTok
Content Posting API to connect one account: our own TikTok account,
@thefiresidetribe1. It requests
these permissions:
- user.info.basic and user.info.profile: to read the connected
account’s open ID, display name, avatar and profile link. We use these
only to show which account is connected inside the planner. - video.upload and video.publish: to upload and post videos that the
Fireside team made.
The app does not read, collect or store data about any other TikTok
user. It does not read comments, followers, messages or viewing data. We
do not sell or share any TikTok data.
YouTube
The planner connects our own YouTube channel through the YouTube Data
API. It reads the channel name and picture to show which channel is
connected, and it uploads our own videos. It does not collect data about
viewers or other channels. Use of YouTube is subject to the YouTube
Terms of Service (https://www.youtube.com/t/terms) and the Google Privacy
Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy).
The planner connects our own Facebook Page through the Meta Graph
API. It reads the Page name and picture to show which Page is connected,
and it publishes our own posts and videos to that Page. It does not
collect data about other people or Pages.
How tokens are stored
When we connect one of our accounts, the platform gives the planner
an access token. These tokens are stored in the planner’s own database
on our self-hosted server. They are used only to publish our own content
and are never shared with anyone.
Revoking access and deleting
data
- TikTok: in the TikTok app go to Settings and privacy, then Security,
then Manage app permissions, and remove “The Fireside Tribe”. - YouTube and Google: visit https://myaccount.google.com/permissions and remove the
app. - Facebook: go to Settings and privacy, then Settings, then Business
integrations, and remove the app.
To ask us to delete any data we hold about you or about a connected
account, email thefiresidetribe@gmail.com with the subject “Data
deletion”. We will confirm and delete it within 30 days.
How long we keep data
- Contact form emails: as long as needed to answer you, then deleted
on request. - Analytics data: kept by PostHog for its standard retention period,
at most 7 years, and we can delete it on request. - Server logs: a few weeks.
- Social media tokens: until the account is disconnected or access is
revoked.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the data
we hold about you, correct it, delete it, object to its use, or complain
to your local data protection authority. Email thefiresidetribe@gmail.com and we will help.
Children
The website and our content are not aimed at children under 13, and
we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this
page.
